SITUATION OF THE PROJECT

Before the reform process, the Social Sciences Library is located on a main lobby sited in the middle of central library of the university. There is an access from this lobby to both the room of magazines and to the room of books. This library is not separated by any element and there is only one consultation room. It causes a lot of noise and movement to the rest of library and it’s not easy to concentrate. It is necessary to separate the consultation space from the rest of library in order that each activity will be performed without interference. There is an accessed stair from ground floor to first floor. The first action will consist on to separate the access from the stairs. The consultation table is little and obsolete. It will be replaced by a more versatile table with more features. Finally we project two new offices and a little warehouse, sited on the space destined to the librarians.

MEMORY OF THE PROJECT

The reform consists on the demolition of all the existing elements, the false ceiling, the elimination of the affected installation (lighting, radiators, electrical cables and mechanisms, etc.), and the demolition of the curved wall behind the desk. We put two doors with automatic opening and closing, one on each access to the rooms of library. The area of catalog and consultation is separated by continuous glass screens, double soundproof, formed each one by two crystal glass pieces (4+4). It is placed from the floor to the ceiling and It has same characteristics as the doors. We put another glass screen on the accessed stairs to ground floor of the library.
